Well tomorrow is the end for the "House That Ruth Built". First off I have to say I am a die-hard Met fan

But my first baseball game which is something no kid ever forgets was at Yankee Stadium. I was 8 years old and went with my grandfather, the Yankees played the Detroit Tigers and won 8-1. Steve Whitaker hit a grand slam and "The Mick" yes Mickey Mantle homered as well. Needless to say I was floating that day.
After the 1973 season the Stadium was remodeled and closed for two years, my dad was involved in the project for about six months which was pretty cool. In 1976 it reopened, I attended my first World Series game when the Yankees took on Cincinnati and the "Big Red Machine" I was at game 4 of what turned out to be a sweep for the Reds. Johnny Bench hit a monster home run to turn the game in there favor. I watched from the third row of the left field line as the fans swarmed the field even though the Yankees lost. Thurman Munson went 9-17 in a losing effort and prompted the Reds manager Sparky Anderson to say to his pitcher and catcher on a trip to the mound "how do you get this guy out"?. The Yankees went on to win the Series the next two years. Another memory was the first Yankee game after the death of Thurmon Munson, he was killed in a plane crash in Ohio cutting short a certain Hall Of Fame career. The moment of silence prior to the game with home plate standing empty for the Yankee Captains honor.
I will always be a Mets fan but I had some great memories from Yankee Stadium.
